The Regional Hospital is unique; our small acute care hospital specializes in the care of patients requiring intensive hospitalization for long periods of time. This 27-bed facility serves as an alternative for patients referred from many other hospitals throughout the Pacific Northwest. Under federal guidelines, only a few hospitals nationally have been designated as specialists in treating patients requiring intensive medical care for extended periods. Medicare calls these hospitals "long term acute care hospitals" (LTAC).
While we are classified as such, we find the term extended critical care management a better descriptor of what we provide to the community. We are proud to have been the first designated provider in a five-state area.
Patients transferred to our hospital are typically in the intensive care unit of the traditional hospital which initiated their medical care. If not for our type of hospital, these patients may otherwise spend weeks, if not months, in such a restrictive setting.
While best known as a regional weaning center for mechanical ventilation, The Regional Hospital provides high quality service and positive outcomes to a wide variety of medically-complex patients. Because of our specialization in medically-fragile patients, we focus on each patient with an individualized approach. At The Regional Hospital, traditional medicine is augmented with activities such as medically-supervised field trips and healing arts. We believe they play a significant role in reviving a person's spirit along with their health.
